讀者 Michael 問(wèn)：溺斃英文是 drown，但遇溺而不死，最后逃過(guò)大難又如何表達(dá)？
英文 drown 這個(gè)字是淹死之意，遇溺而不斃，英文沒(méi)有特別一個(gè)字，只可以在前面加一個(gè) almost，如：He almost drowned but the lifeguard came just in time.
或者可以用 continuous tense，如：He was drowning when the lifeguard pulled him out of the water.
說(shuō)一個(gè)人在水中掙扎，英文是 flounder。Thrash 和 flail 都可以，但這兩個(gè)字也可以用在其他的情況，不只限于水中。水深過(guò)頭時(shí)，人就是 submerge in water，也可以說(shuō) out of one's depth。后者更可作為比喻，來(lái)形容人遇到超出自己能力所能應(yīng)付的情況。
譬如說(shuō)：某人剛從大學(xué)法律系畢業(yè)，第一件處理的案件就千頭萬(wàn)緒，不知從可入手，只得向上司請(qǐng)示。
