讀者 Leo 來電郵問：下面三句都對嗎？
1. The Chair welcomes you to attend this meeting.
2. The Chair welcomes you to this meeting.
3. The Chair welcomes you for attending this meeting.
文法上三句都對。雖然第三句是有點不自然，但不算錯。
Welcome 一字后面可以加 to + infinitive，也可以加 to + noun。桌上放滿食物，主人家對客人說 "You are welcomed to help yourself" 或 "You are welcomed to the food"（較常見的說法是 "You are welcome to help yourself"）。Leo 提出的第一句和第二句的分別就是在此。
至于第三句的 for 是說明理由。主席歡迎大家是因為大家來參加會議。意思沒有大的問題，只不過聽起來好像暗示，你如果不是為了參加會議而來，主席就不歡迎你一樣，這樣未免有點功利。我們換一個說法，聽起來就自然多了：
The Chair wants to thank you for attending this meeting.
